1977 Alfa Romeo T33/SC/12
By the 1977 season, the World Sportscar Championship was in trouble. Very few teams bothered entering cars, so the new T33/SC/12 was pretty much unopposed - winning every race entered and with it the 1977 Championship.
The SC in the model designation refers to 'Scatolato' in Italian - meaning 'boxed' - a reference to the new monocoque chassis developed during the 1976 season. Autodelta/Alfa Romeo had also been developing a 2.1 litre turbocharged version of the Boxer engine, but this ran in only 2 of the 8 championship races in '77.
The car shown is the no.2 Monza 1000 Km-winning entry, driven by Vittorio Brambilla. The season produced victories in all 8 races, including events at Dijon, Vallelunga, Pergusa, Estoril, Paul Ricard, Imola and the Salzburgring. Brambilla collected 4 wins, Arturo Merzario also 4 and Jean-Pierre Jarier 2.
