GTO press launch car

The first production 250 GTO was given chassis #3223GT and was elegantly clothed in red painted aluminium bodywork, sculpted by the artisans at Scaglietti. Sporting an Italian red, white, green tricolour stripe from the nose to the tail - which was initially without its now customary spoiler, the car was presented to the media in February 1962 at the annual Ferrari Press day in Maranello.

In addition to the lack of tail spoiler, the car also featured a straight cut rear vent and the fuel filler mounted on the left rear wing/fender.

The car was subsequently shipped to Luigi Chinetti motors in New York, repainted in metallic blue with a white stripe and raced extensively in the US throughout ’62, ’63 and ’64.
