250 GTO chassis #3705GT

The GTOs Le Mans debut. The 1962 race was won by the Gendebien/Hill 330 TR1/LM as the factory team only entered cars in the prototype category plus a single GTO, albeit with the larger 330 engine. It was left to privateer teams to give the 250 GTO its Le Mans debut, with no fewer than seven 250 GTOs entered in the 1962 edition of the French classic, plus another outing for the first GTO prototype - the 250 GT ‘Sperimentale’

The most successful of the new GTOs was the no. 19 car driven by Jean Guichet and Pierre Noblet which finished 2nd overall and 1st in the GT3.0 class. Note the yellow disc on the flank of the car - this denoted cars which were eligible to score points in the International Championship for GT Manufacturers.
