250 GTO chassis #3987GT

This GTO was bought by Luigi Chinetti for his N.A.R.T. race team in 1962, but soon after sold to Mecom Racing Team, based in Houston,Texas. Team owner John Mecom Jr. retained the metallic blue/white stripe livery from its N.A.R.T. beginnings and entered the car in various US-based World Sportscar events with regular driver Roger Penske. The partnership enjoyed considerable success throughout 1962, including outright race wins in the Nassau Speed Week and 2nd overall in the 3hr Daytona Continental.

The most notable victory was 4th overall, 1st in GT3.0 at the 1963 Sebring 12hrs, Penske co-driving with Augie Pabst (great grandson of two great Milwaukee brewery magnates Frederick Pabst and Joseph Schlitz).
