1976 McLaren M23
The M23 was first introduced in the 1973 season. The new design enjoyed considerable success in the hands of drivers like Denny Hulme, Peter Revson and Mike Hailwood, culminating in the 1974 World Championships for McLaren and Emerson Fittipaldi.
For 1975, Fittipaldi left to join the new Copersucar team, replaced by James Hunt after the collapse of the Hesketh racing team. The season was a classic battle between Lauda in the Ferrari 312T2 and Hunt in the revised M23D - as immortalised in the movie Rush. Hunt finally took the drivers' Championship at the final round in Fuji, Japan, winning from Lauda by a single point.
The car shown is Hunt's 'winning' car from the British GP at Brands Hatch. The victory was subsequently taken away after disqualification.
