Porsche 956. 1982.
This was the first in a consecutive series of Le Mans victories for the Porsche 956. A total of 6 straight victories, in Porsche 956, 956B and 962C variants marked the most successful run in Le Mans history up to that date.
The 1982 and 83 wins for the 956 were in the Rothmans Porsche livery, the two 956B wins in 84 and 85 were Team Joest and the final two - in 962C form - Rothmans Porsche again. The 962C was essentially a longer wheelbase variant of the 956.
The 1982 winner was piloted to victory by Jacky Ickx and Derek Bell - both eventually becoming multiple Le Mans winners, Ickx with 6 wins and Bell with 5.
