Mille Mille 1948. This was the legendary Nuvolari's last great major race - his actual final race was a hillclimb in Montepelligrino, Italy in 1950. Already ill from Tuberculosis, he was persuaded by Enzo Ferrari to pilot one of his 166 Spyder Corsas. Nuvolari was by far the quickest car and comfortably led the race until the car began to fall apart around him - the mudguard, bonnet, aero screen - even the seat cushions. Eventually he had to give it up and was officially classified DNF.
